Rumors..., is a 10 week, guided introduction to designing learning and training activities using strategies of TranceFormational Learning (tm). Using the framework of the Rumors... storyline and environment, participants will be led through a series of TranceFormational Learning (tm) exercises to redesign a traditional learning activity into an emergent learner experience.
Rumors... takes place in the virtual environment of Second Life, though the TranceFormational Learning (tm) strategies learned can be applied to learning and training activities in any environment or situation. Participants in Rumors... will need a free Second Life account, and have access to that environment (For details visit www.secondlife.com).
Please note that Rumors... is not an introduction to the skills and practices of Second Life. If you are new to Second Life, please contact us and we will be happy to help you with a brief orientation to that environment. However, for the best experience in Rumors..., participants should have a basic understanding of Second Life skills.
Participants in Rumors... will join in a weekly, one hour workshop in-world, and have activities to complete each week. Activities are not 'graded', and participants are free to choose how they spend their time. As with any other learning experience, the amount participants can expect to gain from Rumors... will depend in large part on the amount of time and energy they contribute to the experience.
In brief, participants will begin by selecting a learning activity they would like to redesign. They will then apply TranceFormational Learning (tm) strategies to recreate that activity as a learner experience within the Medeival environment and storyline of Rumors... Together, the activities created by all participants will form the larger 'story' of Rumors..., creating an example of a blended, cross-curricular learning experience.
Along with the introduction to TranceFormational Learning (tm) strategies, participants will receive guidance for finding or creating in-world materials to create and enhance their activity. Participants will receive a collection of tools and materials, and have access to ImagiLearning's network of discounts for materials from many of our partners in Second Life. While these disounts will be available, participants will not be required to make any additional purchases to fully participate in Rumors...
The next Rumors... begins the week of May 17, and continues until August 19. The weekly one-hour workshops will be held on Tuesdays at 1:00pm PST and 5pm PST. Both sessions will cover similar content, so participants should attend at least one of these sessions each week.
Registration for Rumors... is open, and space is limited. Registration is $325.00 per person, payable via PayPal to Imagilearning, Inc.
